AEG Staff provided CM services for METRA bridges reconstruction on Rock Island Line (Chicago to Joliet) in the City of Chicago, Illinois.
Phase III Construction Engineering and Inspection services for the reconstruction of METRA Rock Island steel bridges at 67th Street, 69th Street, 70th Street, 71st Street and 72nd Street
The construction consisted of the staged existing inbound/ outbound two single track steel girder bridges demolition, existing abutments removal and replacement with the new bridge abutments, and the new single double track steel girder bridge. The work included complete abutment reconstruction with the new caissons, new abutments, the new retaining wall, installation of the new ballast, installation of the new ties and tracks. The work also included steel bridge painting (both track level and roadway), bridge waterproofing, ballast and track placement. Additional work included partial embankment, local street reconstruction and maintaining street closure and detours. The project was constructed with one of the two existing METRA tracks being closed and the other track fully operational with speed restrictions through the construction zone. Responsibilities included assisting PM (Resident Engineer) with the monitoring project schedule, project meetings, conducting inspections, coordinating with the designer, CM sub-consultants, METRA (client) and general contractor (Kiewit Western) and subcontractors.
